Skittle made her debut at MFM this past weekend. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with the costume!
I used a "painter's hood" (thin, cheap balaclava from the hardware store) as the base for this suit. Built up the foam, used elastic in an attempt to make the jaw move and it does just barely, I just need to play with it a little bit more. The fur is red unpelted mink from Denver Fabrics, white un-pelted mink from I'm Stuffed Fur, and the rainbow stuff came from Hobby Lobby. Eyes are plastic with thin white fabric (similar to buckram) for the irises, prisma markers to color them in. I used foamies for the "eyelash" outline. Eyebrows and lips are tool-dipped pillow tubing (that stuff you use to do edges on decorative pillows) and I was going to do a tool-dip nose, but it got squashed before it dried all the way, eek. :( Instead, I used a plastic jelly bean - appropriate for a candy skunk! :)
Now that I've got "action shots" of the suit, there is really only one thing I want to change, and that's the thickness of the chin. It's a little too thick for my liking, but overall I'm happy with it! :)
Planned changes that would've required more time but weren't necessary to the costume include "watching" eyes and a hair tuft on top of the head. I simply ran out of time. I would've added at least the hair, but I got sick the night before the con (as it was we left three hours later than planned, darn food poisoning!) and just couldn't get it done. :(
Also another note, I got asked if I "made the padding" in my legs. Technically... yes! I have strategically placed pudge, I suppose. I used to lament it, but I guess I fill out the suit rather well. =P I actually really like how the legs on this suit look. I was not too confident about making a "fitted" body suit due to my body type and being self-conscious, but, I guess the results were okay. ;)
If anyone else got pics of Skittle during the convention, please let me know! It was fun to play her over the weekend. :D
