cooling systems

I'm interested in knowing what people use to keep cool while in their fursuits. Since I got mine I haven't put it on much cause I got hot really fast, it sucks not having an air conditioner in the house. I've been thinking of designing some kind of shirt to hold a couple small ice packs, but once the ice packs've melted I'm screwed and I don't think they'll last long at AC.

Another one of those head updates!

Yes, again. Anyway, my head's coming along really nicely and the furring is almost done. Latest progress shot is here. I know the tear ducts/eye holes look a little odd now, but trust me, they should look a lot more natural once I have his markings added on. I've had some success experimenting with painting the fur with a fine toothed cat comb - it might not be quite like airbrushing, but it looks nice so far. I tried it out on the tail I made for him, and I'm quite pleased with the results.

Enough showing off, though - I need more help! Here's my next questions:

What would you recommend for lips? I'm still going for realism here, but I'm unsure as to what to use - a lot of pages I see don't seem to mention how to do lips at all. I'm considering fake leather, but I want to know if there's any other options.

I'm almost ready to add the hair, and while I'm pretty sure a wig would be the best way to get the effect I want, there's still a few things I need to work out. The char's hair is a blueish slate grey colour, and I'm not sure how to achieve that. I'm not entirely sure you can dye wigs, and even if you can, I don't think I could get the right shade. Would I be better off brushing acrylic paint into the hairs like I'll be doing with the fur?

Next time, I promise, I'll make something with simpler markings, and shorter hair. I would have to go overboard for my first time...
